About our
“MACHIYA” hotel

Although the original owner of the estate is unknown, it is clear that he was of samurai status. The presence of a Kura store house and Chashitsu tea serving room along with the wide yard and multiple rooms that stand out even among the middle class of the time are a testament to its elite origins. The facilities of our Machiya hotel are a result of the renovation of that samurai's estate.
If you stay at this hotel, you can enjoy the historical atmosphere and get a sense for the daily life of that period.
You can feel at home surrounded by classically designed furniture.
From the moment you arrive, feel welcomed by our opened, more than 150 years-old gate adorned with Japanese traditional Noren curtains.
Please enjoy your stay while immersing your self in not just Japanese culture, but a special brand of preserved atmosphere from the Japan and Kanazawa of old.

Guest Room

[Kumo no yukue]
Superior Twin Room with Garden View

Your eyes are dazzled by the bright, shining red (called "shu iro," or “bengara iro” in Japanese) meant to extenuate the alluring dance of the geisha entertainers.
The Shu walls are the same type that geisha would use a backdrop as they performed for special guests of the evening.
Kanazawa is a land often shielded by a veil heavy clouds, muting its natural colors. By contrast, these eyepopping and colorful rooms light up the natural overcast.
Our Shu walls express our desire to serve you with the heart of Kanazawa’s hospitality “omotenashi”.

[parlor lapis lazuli]
Superior Twin Room with Garden View

Built “Seisonkaku” as an estate to suit the tastes of Lord Nariyasu Maeda, the head of the Kaga feudal domain, the luxurious indigo spreads from the entrance, coating the entirety of the parlour of this suite.
The generous use of the shining lapis lazuli signified the wealth and power afforded to the elite class of that time.
Throughout the feudal era, the use of this color was reserved only for the feudal lord. To allow everyday people a taste of what that elite lifestyle was like, Kanazawa made a point of using the color in many of its hotels.

Garden

Japanese style gardens displaying the distinct charm of the four seasons
Just a 13-minute walk from the station, the vast garden puts the gorgeous spring cherry blossoms, summer pine, fall momiji, and winter snow on full display.
Guests can enjoy a whole spectrum of uniquely Japanese landscapes. Japanese cherry blossoms tend to impress visitors the most, but the gentle and cool green that marks the beginning of summer as well as the blazing yellows and reds of fall give something to behold for visitors at any time.
And thanks to our covered Japanese engawa (similar to a porch bench), guests can enjoy the view and atmosphere of the garden from the comfort of their suite.
These days, the number of traditional Japanese gardens is decreasing. But the garden of Machi no Odoriba is still here to serve your pleasure.

“ONSEN” Bath

There is an Onsen tab in each room privately.
This onsen, once favored by warriors seeking battle during the Japanese samurai era, is now the perfect retreat to soothe both body and soul after a long journey.
There are no places to have private onsen baths in Kanazawa Station.
Our special onsen has brought from seaside you take.
You can enjoy your relax time with Japanese wealthy onsen bath.

Dinner

Meals will be served at a partner restaurant.

Breakfast

Our meals make full use of the area's Hokuriku rice that is famous even among Japanese people.
We serve Hokuriku rice prepared "Komado Daki" style. That means using a traditional clay pot; no electric rice cookers! The result is a rice grain that is sweeter and softer than average rice.

Kamado Daki rice breakfast

Our specialty chef prepares the best tasting dishes to compliment our Hokuriku rice.
And fresh from Ishikawa prefecture, Wagyu beef is on our menu, available upon request.

White rice with a fresh egg breakfast

Tamago-kake-gohan(rice topped woth fresh egg)has been a staple of Japanese cuisine in practically every household since ancient time. The fresh eggs we serve, raw, over our specialty rice will bring back memories of childhood for any Japanese native.
The egg yolk is marinated in mirin and soy sauce for one night, and served on a bed of the beaten egg whites; perfect for a sleepy head.
The very image of morning bliss for Japanese people.

Dashi Noodle breakfast

To gently wake up your morning stomach, we serve warm noodles in dashi soup stock with a tightly packed onigiri and side dishes. Enjoy what Japanese people would consider a "delicate" taste for the first meal of your day.
These three morning options are ready to serve.

Choose the option that you feel will best power you through your day of activities.
Our morning meal line up is perfect for the guest looking forward to tasting what true Japanese food culture of mainly using vegetable has to offer.

Treasury cafe

Repurposed form the estate's treasury, our café is a real treat for the guest interested in how the elites used to live. Traditionally constructed from clay and a protective plaster, the café walls are 20-30cm thick.
As a result, the Kura is resistant to extreme cold, heat, and humidity, making it the perfect place to store food and valuables.
In modern times, the necessity of Kura has decreased, so they have become a rare site. But we have maintained ours to give our guests a unique experience.
It's just one more perk our guests can enjoy when they stay at Machiya hotel.
Paintings of the hotel’s owner’s favorite artist adorning the walls paired with music from the antique record player sets the perfect, timeslip mood to enjoy along with your breakfast or teatime in our modern café Kura.

Rickshaw

During Japan's Meiji era, one popular mode of transportation was the Jinriki-sha, or manned taxi. Our jinriki-sha shafu staff can speak English and French, and are happy to take you on a guided tour from Higashi Jaiya Gai to Kenrokuenn park.
Our jinrikisha are covered, so Kanazawa rain won't dampen your tour. And thanks to the raised carriage, the view is a step up above what you can see while going around on foot.
The blazing red of the jinrikisha accent the scenery in all of your vacation pictures, making all your memorial photos that much nicer.
